Ramayana, et.al.
A free cultural show was held at the conference center about an Indonesian epic folktale, Ramayana. This show was performed by dancers from Yogyakarta State University courtesy of the Indonesian Consulate in Thailand. Before the great episode, Indonesian dances were likewise presented. These include:
Golek Ayun-Ayun Dance from Central Java

Rantjak Dance from West Sumatra

Trunajaya Dance from Bali

And the highlight of the show is Sinta Panggih which is a part of the Ramayana epic. According to the synopsis, the story is about Rama and Sinta’s romantic journey in the midst of Rahwana’s evil plans to destroy their relationship. While Rama was on his way to catch a golden deer at Sinta’s request, evil Rahwana crafted tricky ways to catch the lady. Despite Leksmana’s (brother of Rama) protection, Rahwana was able to deceive and drag Sinta away from him. Other characters in the story were also depicted such as the fight between a giant eagle, Jatayu, and Anoman, the ape. In the end, Rama faces Rahwana in a great duel and successfully takes Sinta back.

The Gamelan music used in the show produces an interesting rhythm in every scene of the story.
Makes me want to go back and visit Indonesia again…
